Birthday Celebration: The school handbook states that birthday party invitations may NOT be handed out at school unless the whole class is invited. Please stick to these rules to eliminate hurt feelings. Thanks for understanding!
Book Orders: If you would like to order books please fill out the order slip and send cash or checks with the form in an envelope. Please make checks payable to Scholastic. You are also welcome to order books on-line by using the code listed on the order. Our class code is GMGKL. Through ordering books, we are able to use bonus points to gain free books for our classroom! The goal is to have a $200.00 order. If we are able to achieve this, we will receive approximately 100 free books.
Box Tops: We are collecting Box Tops and Hy-Vee receipts at school. Box tops are found on many products: cereal boxes, kleenex boxes, muffin mixes, etc. Depending on the brand, box tops are found on many items. Each box top is worth 10 cents which goes directly to our school. Last year, alone, our PTA earned thousands of dollars for our district just by collecting Box Tops. To make things a little more motivating for students to bring Box Tops in, the PTA offers prizes to classrooms for bringing in so many Box Tops. Our class goal for the year is to earn 3,000 box tops. If we all work together, I know we can accomplish this goal. Also, any Hy-Vee receipts you get, please turn those in, as they, too, earn money for our school. We are also collecting Campbell's Soup Labels. Send any of those labels as well.
Homework: Homework will be sent home every Monday, and will come back to school on Friday. Our homework each week will be a reading assignment, that focuses on our spelling words and phonics lessons. You will be expected to completed 3/9 of the tasks. And math will have the same format, a sheet with 9 tasks will come home and you can pick which three you would like to complete. As well as, I would like to see first graders reading 15-20 minutes every night, with or without a parent. These skills/tasks in the homework focus a lot on early literacy concepts, which will serve as the foundation to developing strong readers. I encourage you to work a little each night on homework throughout the week. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding the homework this year. Thanks for your support!
Lunch: We eat lunch from 11:00-11:25. You are welcome to join your child for lunch, please just sign in at the office and wait in the front entryway.
Medication: Please send all medication to the nurses office. This include cough drops and other over the counter medicine.
Money: When sending money to school please send it in an envelope with your child's name, my name, and purpose of money.
P.E. Shoes/Library Books: Please be sure that your child has proper shoes for PE (tennis shoes, no sandals or flip flops) and that your child returns library books on the designated days. On the snack calendar, I have included the days we have P.E. and the days that library books are due. Thanks for your support!
Rules: Do the RIGHT Thing and Treat People RIGHT!!!
Water Bottles: Although we have access to drinking fountains not far from our classroom, it would be much easier for your child to have a water bottle at his/her seat to use throughout the day. If you would like to send a water bottle for your child to keep at school, you are welcome to do so.
